And then came the news of Adam Levine and Kmart launching a men’s line this week.
And last week, it was the news of Odin x Rag & Bone. And the week before that: GQ, Gap and four different labels collaborated on a capsule collection of capsule collections. And the list goes on. So now that we’ve officially entered a new era where an “X” seems to be on every tag we encounter, we thought we’d take stock of the season’s new batch of collaborations to better understand the X factor in each collection.

The Collection: Isabel Marant x H&M
The X Factor: Incredibly hip French women’s designer dabbles in menswear for the first time ever—and, smartly, retail giant H&M wants in on the action.

The Collection: Filson x J.Crew
The X Factor: Americana forefathers and their preppy equivalent team up for a win-win collaboration.

The Collection: Phillip Lim for Target
The X Factor: The big-box retailer continues its string of fashion-world coups by landing Lim for another high-low collection.

The X Factor: While it sounds like just another case of two big names happy to slap their monikers on anything that seems worthwhile—and it basically is—there’s something interesting about Levine’s downtown kid aesthetic meeting Kmart’s suburban lack of it.
