First London, and now the world. Following in the footsteps of the Museum of London’s iPhone app, we came across a clever site called Historypin that tracks down the original setting for vintage photos (like this famous Times Square one) and places them shoulder to shoulder with modern-day landscapes thanks to a little help from Google Maps. They don’t always match up, but when they do it’s pretty spectacular—and unlike London’s app, their catalogue is only getting larger, thanks to a focused outreach to schools and (presumably) bloggers. There’s no augmented reality app yet…but we can always dream.
