The Icon: Alec Baldwin

It’s easy to forget what a slick bastard Alec Baldwin was in his prime.

It’s not that he’s fallen off; just the opposite. He’s aged so gracefully, it’s hard to remember he wasn’t always the jolly playboy uncle he is now. But over the years, he’s passed through a wide range of styles, from “young hunk” to “slicked-back corporate raider” to “mountain man,” and he’s never seemed like anyone other than himself.

So we thought we’d take a minute to celebrate the evolution of Mr. Baldwin, in five easy pieces…

The Anti-MOTH: Andrew Garfield

It’s not all easy for skinny guys.

Take Andrew Garfield, Spider Man-to-be, pictured here carrying the water for The Social Network at the Screen Actor’s Guild awards this weekend. His midnight blue tuxe is a thing of beauty, with just enough peak in the lapels and just enough ruffle in the pocket square.

The only problem is it’s too big, so he’s also wearing a few extra inches of fabric around his ankles and the whole lower half of his body has rumpled up in response.

The result makes him look even spindlier than he is. If he’d sized down a little, he’d look a lot more commanding…but maybe he’s saving that for the sequel.
