You probably won’t watch every awards-season movie this year. That’s okay, no one does. And that’s why there are trailers. Those wonderful, two-minute, misleading narrative mashups that invariably end with you saying, “Oh, I’m definitely seeing that one.” It’s a critical institution.
So we watched every damn trailer of the would-be prestige films that have opened or will open this year, and have declared winners in the categories we know mean the most to you.
As expected, there were plenty of good-looking tuxedoes on display at last night’s Oscars.
But there were a few unexpected standouts, a few successful risk-takers—like David Oyelowo’s Bordeaux tux—and a few not-so-successful ones (ahem, Jared Leto). So we’re naming the real winners of last night, regardless of whether they took home a golden statuette.
There were plenty of good-looking tuxedoes at last night’s Oscars—which was to be expected.
But there were a few unexpected standouts, a few departures that we were pleasantly surprised by—like the Hemsworthian burgundy—and a couple of ivory-white jackets that split the difference between questionable and impeccable. When it really comes down to it, these were the real winners of the Oscars (some even took home a golden statue)...
A little something called the Oscars is finally happening this weekend.
Sure, there will be a lot of focus on the red carpet’s pomp and sharply tailored circumstance, but it’s really about who takes home the golden statues. Which is why we’ve put together this stylish compendium of Oscar glory at its most handsome.
You can learn a lot from watching Matthew McConaughey’s movies.
How to get lost in 10 days.
What a really unhealthy weight looks like.
The only right way to wear peach pants.
But turns out, you can learn a lot more by just spending a couple hours in a room with the guy. I was fortunate enough to get a front-row seat to the McConaissance (hat tip to anyone who can go from Fool’s Gold to Oscar nominee in the same decade) at a recent taping of Inside the Actors Studio.
We’ve been tracking Redmayne’s red-carpet ascension closely this awards season, and this move solidifies his bid as Red Carpet Rookie of the Year. (The rest of his kit was also impeccable, as you can see.) But it was an undeniably handsome night all around, so we couldn’t let the chance to point out a few more of our favorites go by.
