So you didn’t make it to Milan for the Salone del Mobile this year…
Neither did we—but thanks to the magic of the Internet we were able to get in on the action and take a peek at the coolest new chairs, chandeliers and other outlandishly good-looking design being unveiled this year.
The dust has just settled on Baselworld 2014—where half a world away, watch buyers, collectors and editors feasted their eyes, and wrists, on the new timepieces that will be hitting the market this year.
But the real action wasn’t in Switzerland, or on the blogs. It was all happening in real time, on Instagram. So we culled the list of horologically minded folk who made the transatlantic voyage, and compiled their various expertly filtered snapshots to get a good look at what could be on your wrist later this year.
Every Wednesday, we’re giving you a deeper look into what makes the minds behind Kempt tick. We call it: The Kempt Five.
A lot has changed since we last declared the seven sexiest Instagram feeds.
Things have gotten even sexier. (Mostly thanks to the addition of the Amaro filter.)
Which reminded us that it’s high time we rounded up all the new-on-the-scene models, actresses and semiprofessional bikini wearers who have been Instagramming their way right into our hearts. So without further ado, we present:
We know you’ve felt it—but probably couldn’t quite put your finger on why the state of social media has been feeling increasingly handsome recently.
We’d hazard a guess that it happened right about when Kempt joined Twitter.
And then again when the factory of expertly filtered dapperness and lifestyle-y-ness popped up in the form of UrbanDaddy’s Instagram. (Our friend Jack here does a pretty good job of encapsulating both.) If you haven’t already hit “follow” on both feeds, we’d advise you to do it immediately. It’s all right, we’ll wait. Go on. Okay, good. You’ll thank us later.
Preferably in under 140 characters.
Every Wednesday from here on out, we’re giving you a piece of our minds. Actually, more like five pieces. It’s a chance to get a deeper look into what makes the minds behind Kempt tick—you know, beyond the usual Internet handsomeness we’re serving up daily. So welcome to our newest and most personal weekly feature: The Kempt Five.
Memorial Day might have marked the unofficial start of summer, but since the real deal doesn’t start till later this month, there’s still plenty of time to get prepared.
And these newly minted June issues won’t let you forget it for a second.
Likewise, in our grand tradition of surveying the broader field of menswear journalism, we’ve thumbed through this month’s crop of printed swimwear, whites, lightweight fabrics and otherwise uncategorized eye candy, just for you. You know, in anticipation.
Instagram is great for a lot of reasons—we’re sure the creators can think of about a billion, but here’s our favorite: celebrities have finally started getting in on the action. And models. And the like.
So we took the liberty of combing through some very good-looking feeds to bring you the most attractive and spectacular of the bunch. (You can thank us later.)
Long before we had Instagram, the only way to memorialize yourself in your luxest fineries was by painting a self-portrait. And as you’re probably aware, Vincent van Gogh took a lot of oil-painting selfies back then—documenting his varying levels of inebriation and earlobe.
Recently, one curious architect/photographer, Tadao Cern, connected the dots and turned one of van Gogh’s most famous self-portraits into a stunningly accurate digital-age interpretation and documented the process in a clever video (we’ve got it after the jump). Notably, the neatly-bearded van Gogh and his blogger-blue velvet three-piece don’t look much out of place in today’s menswear landscape. We’re looking forward to the full lookbook next fall.
