Introducing... C.C. Filson by Nigel Cabourn

In the event that you’re still eyeing a new archivally incined coat for this fall—and the next two dozen or so—you can stop looking now...

Because Filson’s tough-as-nails waxed-cotton jackets and Nigel Cabourn’s nose for timelessly rugged designs have just combined in a perfect storm of autumnal outerwear: C.C. Filson.

For starters, there’s a hooded cape jacket based on a long-lost 1930s Filson coat Cabourn discovered in Japan, and a WWI-style full-length work jacket, and a coat with brass fireman clip closures lined in a heavy-duty wool that will get you through the tail end of fall into winter. There are a few more jackets to come later in the season, so keep your eyes peeled, but in the meantime:

Now You Can Bring the Fellow Barber Home

Because as of yesterday, they’ve launched their own proprietary brand of grooming products—the same stuff Sam Buffa has been perfecting in his barbershops for years.

You’ll want to hop over to their (also) new online shop and preorder the lot, shipping before the end of June. While you’re there, you may be tempted to pick up a few other essentials from the likes of Odin, Filson and Baxter. Just go with it.

Inside Filson’s New NYC Flagship

0509Kempt-Filson-Flagship-NYC

Settling into the former Partners & Spade studio, grandfather of American-made excellence Filson opens up their first East Coast shop today on Great Jones—and it’s a stunner.

Past the racks of 100-year-old Mackinaw Cruisers, the Shinola Bixby suspended over glass-encased billfolds and valets, and a gargantuan reclaimed-wood display reading like a wall of fame for Filson baggery, you’ll find the lounge area.

It’s replete with perfectly broken-in leather couches, a whiskey cabinet and a shuffleboard table framed around the living-wall backdrop—which has stuff like cacti growing out of field bags.

They’ve also got a bunch of stuff you can’t get anywhere else: their new Magnum Collaboration collection, along with one-of-a-kind curated finds like vintage Army-issued cameras.

Jacket Companies Making Things Besides Jackets

042814_Barbour-Watches

We’ve been noticing a startling new trend in menswear: jacket companies are diversifying their portfolios.

First we heard that venerable coaterie Barbour was getting into the watch game. Then there was something about Patagonia selling food. And with a bit more digging, we found even more options to buy non-outerwear gear from your favorite jacket makers.

Let’s take a look at the new ventures from these enterprising labels.»

When a Man Loves a Filson

0403filsonHEADER

It seems like every day our friends at Filson are introducing some new, beautiful combination of canvas and leather to the world.

And every time they do, we add it to our wish list. But it’s not just because their products are handsome (though they most certainly are); it’s also because of the adventure-filled fantasies that such beautiful creations inspire.

Fish being caught. Trees being felled. Beards being grown.

Trouble is, most of them will stay just that: fantasies. So we’ve put together a few solid excuses for why you just need to invest in our favorites at Filson, regardless of whether or not they’ll go to use out in the wild.
