When you’ve made your name as a provocateur, dressing for formal occasions can be quite a challenge. But when in doubt, you can always crib off John Waters.
His answer here, for instance, is to go loud. Caught at the Writers Guild Awards, those stripes are as large as you’ll see on anyone outside of a carnival, and the stab marks in his suit just drive it home further—he’s determined not to be the square in this room. But because the suit fits like a dream, and the gray tweed is actually pretty handsome, he manages to dress his age nonetheless.
Granted, it’s more than a little costume-y—but as it turns out, so is Mr. Waters.
