We’re curious fellows here at Kempt, so we’re always up for a little rack-hunting.

To that end, we took a peek inside *In God We Trust*, a boutique split between New York’s SoHo and Williamsburg. Managed by designer Shana Tabor, the stores split their stock between the house label—mostly female, but with a few very tempting bags—and what Shana calls “like-minded brands.” The store and the label both project a kind of Newport bohemianism that comes off much easier than it sounds.

The trick, we suspect, is being selective.

One such brand is the similarly preppy Santa Monica-based TOMS Shoes, a line of socially-conscious canvas shoes. They may not have much in the way of arch support, but slippers can be a lot more versatile than you’d think. Especially when they come in houndstooth.

The store is also stocked with a handful of local brands (that’s Williamsburg, not SoHo) like Sovereign Beck who’s responsible for this rack of ties. Aside from a slight 80s nod, they stay away from the retro game that’s swallowed up most tie-makers.

Another local brand is Maxx & Unicorn, who put together these 40s style wallets. Unlike modern wallets, these are assembled from a single piece of leather. In other words, they’re seamless, and you won’t have to worry about the stitching going to pieces after a few years.
