Three Things to Know About David Hart
This is the latest in our seasonal series on New York Fashion Week.
We headed over to Industria Superstudio yesterday to check out the latest ready-to-wear collection from David Hart, and it was just the kind of punchy-yet-playful display of reimagined classics we’d hoped for.
Now, three things you should know about our experience:
1. You’re about to enter another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. Next stop, The Twilight Zone. At least that’s what he’s going for. From Motown-inspired knitwear to static-printed dinner jackets—he’s drawing influence from the macabre atmosphere of the series along with the cultural evolution surrounding the dawn of television in the American home.
2. The guy knows how to draw a crowd. While he started off in ’09 with a neckwear line, this is just his third-ever ready-to-wear collection—making the line of bloggers, buyers and miscellaneous industry folk wrapped around the block/clamoring for a closer look all the more impressive.
3. He hasn’t forgotten the little things. High-shine wingtips by way of Walk-Over Shoes and hand-painted, faux-shattered lenses from Moscot compliment sharp pleats, notched lapels and slim ties—pretty much sealing the deal on the whole late-’50s time-warp thing.
