Three of Kings
*Photographed by our fearless lensman, Patrick McMullan.*
Here we have a topping triumvirate to be reckoned with: *haute* hotelier Andre Balazs, literary lion Tom Wolfe, and dapper designer David Chu. Wolfe is of course a style icon of long standing, but the other two are no slouches in the dressing department either. In fact it’s rare to see three of the nattiest types in town across such a broad spectrum having a tête-à-tête.
Who could effect such a meeting of the sartorial minds? None other than Lewis Lapham, that most elegant of elder statesmen and erstwhile editor of *Harper’s* magazine. He now has his own patrician publication, *Lapham’s Quarterly*, and the gathering above occurred at a party for its new Money issue hosted by Chu and the Accompanied Literary Society.
The ALS grew out of the Accompanied Library Society that used to meet in a book-lined, bar-equipped room above the National Arts Club. Now *sans* library, they stage roving events like these with help from like-minded folks like Chu, who let them hold this one at the well-appointed E. 22nd St. townhouse that houses his bespoke operation. No doubt these fellows found time to feel up some fine, um, fabrics.
