When you put a few hundred athletes on the same red carpet, you can expect the evening’s propensity for sartorial flamboyance to be magnified by the power of 10.
Which was mostly the case at last night’s ESPYS, but we were pleasantly surprised by a number of guys taking the less is more approach—which requires an understatedness that’s just as hard to nail as a bright-red shawl-lapel tuxedo (we’re looking at you, LeBron James).
And a few gents managed to play it close to the vest with major aplomb. Most notably: DeAndre Jordan’s blue linen suit with a champagne-hued tie, DeMarcus Cousins’s whisper-gray suit with polka-dot pocket square and MC Jon Hamm’s pared-down tux (even if those slim lapels felt a bit dated).
