Daniel Day Lewis

We were first drawn to the turn of the century Texas oil flick *There Will Be Blood* by the tweedy wardrobe of its star Daniel Day-Lewis. Very Freeman’s Sporting Club, we thought.

And how apropos for the Times to subsequently declare the return of tweed—yet another of those things that never really went anywhere to begin with, as far as we’re concerned.

Day-Lewis has of course long been one of the more interesting sartorial characters in the Hollywood hemisphere; at the New York premiere of *Blood* the other night, he didn’t disappoint. The rangy British actor, who once worked as a cobbler in Florence, turned out in a custom-made three-piece boldly checked orange, green and gold tweed suit with a ticket pocket and shawl-collared vest, accentuated with a purple and gold silk tie. That’s the kinda sugar poppa likes….
