In our first five months of MOTHs we’ve witnessed some significant sartorial transformations—see Hanks, Tom—but none so dramatic as today’s honoree, Terry Richardson, the photographer who’s pioneered a sort of *nouveau*-perv aesthetic. Richardson, son of famed fashion photographer Bob Richardson, lensed fellow MOTH Tom Ford‘s controversial new ad campaign. Richardson has long favored a uniform of grungey plaid flannel shirts, thermal underwear and well-worn tees.

But at the Natural History Museum’s Winter Ball hosted by Roberto Cavalli the other night, Richardson, accompanied by girlfriend Jenn Brill (who’s sometimes i.d.’d as the Maritime Hotel‘s “Director of Mischief”), was easily the best-dressed man in attendance.

He turned out in a trim two-button, single-breasted black wool suit, tone-on-tone grid pattern black silk tie, snow white dress shirt and black calfskin shoes, all by Yves Saint Laurent, with a weighty black cashmere scarf from Hermes casually draped over it all. Thankfully he still sported his trademark custom-made tinted glasses, or we might have failed to recognize him altogether.
