Pitti

The international menswear cognoscenti are descending upon Florence as we speak, for the 84th installment of Pitti Immagine Uomo.

And as any well-read menswear enthusiast will tell you, it pays to know what exactly all the fuss is about (especially if you find yourself flipping through Tumblr or in a heated debate with your tailor in the next few days). So with that in mind, we’ve prepared an A-to-Z primer of talking points and trivia that should get you through the semi-annual spectacle of peacockery.

Herewith, the ABCs of Pitti Uomo.

Pitti

Al Bazar. The famous Milanese men’s shop helmed by #menswear famous Lino Ieluzzi.

Bloggers.

Cucinelli, Brunello. The patron saint of Italian cashmere and casual luxury in general.

Dad jeans. Naturally, the Italians have managed to make them look cool again.

Pitti

Esky. The nickname for Esquire magazine. They’ll be there.

Florence, Italy. Where this is all going down.

GQ. They’ll be there, too.

Hashtag menswear. Written: #menswear. You’ll know it when you see it.

Pitti

Instagram. Luckily, for those not there, guys like Michael Williams of ACL will be firing off handsome missives like the above all weekend.

Jawnz. Internet-speak for a very appealing item of clothing that a blogger has spotted at a trade booth and will be pining for until it’s released six months from now.

Korean designers will be showcased.

L.B.M. We got a sneak peek at what they’re showing at Pitti. Handsome stuff.

Men’s jewelry. There will be bracelets. Lots of bracelets. On top of more bracelets.

No socks. We’d be surprised if one pair had even been packed for the weeklong trip.

Orley. A small American brand making waves in Italy.

Pitti

Photographers. Everywhere. (And just as stylish as their subjects.)

Quvenzhané Wallis. She might be there. Sometimes celebrities like to make an appearance at these things. Kanye did a couple years back.

Pitti

Rock and roll. A special exhibit/collaboration between Rolling Stone and legendary textile mill Vitale Barberis Canonico that will have a live band playing.

Sprezzatura. It’s the name of the game.

Tommy Ton. His street style Pitti Uomo photos for GQ are always a must-see.

Unstructured blazers. The soft-shouldered, lightweight jacket that’s perfect for this time of year in Italy.

Vibram. The company making the rubber soles of all your favorite shoes.

Pitti

WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie. Stylish bags designed by equally stylish twin brothers.

Xacus. The only label beginning with an X on the Pitti Uomo floor.

Yarn. Specifically, linen yarn will be this year’s subject of the “Italian Handscapes” program, highlighting the countries raw materials.

Z’s. You’ll want to catch a few, once this whole thing’s finally over.
