Timepiece Tuesday: The New Ressence Type 3

Timepiece Tuesday: The New Ressence Type 3

There’s been a lot of talk about smartwatches lately... But Ressence makes the sort of smart watch (two words) that we can get behind. The brand pushes the boundaries of watch innovation, by using existing technology—in the mechanical sense—to make a watch that’s more interesting than anything that needs to be charged every few days. (Nor will their watches ever require a software update.)

And they just unveiled their newest creation: an update to their groundbreaking Type 3.

Timepiece Tuesday: 10 Watches You Should Spend $10,000 on Instead of the Apple Watch

Timepiece Tuesday: 10 Watches You Should Spend $10,000 on Instead of the Apple Watch

There weren’t really any big surprises at yesterday’s Apple event in Cupertino.

We basically got a rehashing of what to expect from the Apple Watch and when to expect to be able to buy one (April 24). And we finally learned what to expect to pay. The base price of $349 seemed like a forgone conclusion, but the big reveal was that the “Edition” line of watches would cost upwards of $10,000. Yep, you’re starting at five figures for the opportunity to buy a gilded version of the same $349 watch. Naturally, we’ve got a better idea of how to spend that 10 grand, on some serious timepieces.

Herewith, the 10 watches you should spend $10,000 on instead of the Apple Watch.

Timepiece Tuesday: Swatch Relaunches Sistem51

Timepiece Tuesday: Swatch Relaunches Sistem51

It seems like Swatch has been around forever, making bare-bones Swiss watches favored by kids, minimalists, ’80s enthusiasts and, more recently,  high-powered CEOs.

But they’d gone largely unheralded by horology buffs, until they unveiled the Sistem51 line of watches at Basel World a few years ago. The fully automatic watches (named for the 51 parts hermetically sealed into the case) were made entirely by machine and boasted some impressive stats for a watch that costs less than it would to service most high-end timepieces.

And since Swatch just relaunched the Sistem51 in five new models, let’s take a closer look at what’s new:

As you’ve probably surmised, there’s a certain romantic holiday happening this weekend.

And if you’re still searching for the right token of your affection, let us suggest giving the gift of time. Of course, depending on a number of different factors—length of relationship, her tastes, your wallet—gifting a watch can mean different things. And different price points.

So this Tuesday, we’ve laid out the five watches that she’ll love, which will set you back as little as 50 bucks or as much as $1,500.

Timepiece Tuesday: Bremont Kingsman Collection

Timepiece Tuesday: Bremont Kingsman Collection

For being a historically well-dressed bunch, it seems that spies in films are always toting around a lot of impractical pseudo-gadgetry—bow tie cameras, shoe phones, et cetera.
So we were pleasantly surprised to hear that the most important gadgets worn in the upcoming espionage flick Kingsman: The Secret Service will be actual, honest-to-God wristwatches made by Bremont.

And they just launched at Mr Porter, if you’d like to get in on the action...

Timepiece Tuesday: The Montblanc e-Strap

There’s no denying the elegance of a traditional timepiece—which is why most die-hard watch enthusiasts have sworn off even the mere thought of switching to a smartwatch, regardless of the technological advantages.

But the impasse might be over thanks to Montblanc’s newly unveiled e-Strap, a NATO-strap-esque watch band that allows you to wear a mechanical watch while hiding away all of the touchscreen gadgetry under your wrist.

Let’s take a closer look, shall we.»
