The 10 Best-Dressed Men at the Golden Globes

  • Najib Benouar

Hollywood has been experiencing a black-tie renaissance for the past few awards seasons, and last night’s Golden Globes was no exception—just about everyone looked sharp.

On the whole there’s been less risk taking (unless you count Leo DiCaprio challenging Clooney for his notch-lapel-tuxedoed throne), but that’s generally a good thing when it comes to something as traditional and elegant as black tie. In fact, there were so many well-played tuxes, it was hard to narrow it down, but we managed to pick the 10 best.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to crib a few moves from these gents for your Oscars run...»

  • Kempt Staff

Redford and Newman. Clooney and Pitt. Sinatra and the entire Rat Pack.

The bond between two incredibly stylish men is a special one—and, more importantly, makes for some especially handsome photo ops. Discovering George’s Handmade Boots

  • Najib Benouar

Thanks to the all-knowing Internet powers that be at Reddit, we discovered this curious video of a small bootmaker in Oregon.

George’s Handmade Boots is a one-man operation that’s been quietly turning out handsome custom footwear out of eastern Oregon for the better part of the past century, and now the world is finally getting a look into his shop. As you can imagine, it’s as Americana as it gets—he still operates the way he did back then: phone orders and a mail catalog that you can request by, you guessed it, phone. In the recent flurry of interest, his granddaughter set up the Facebook page and there are talks of an e-commerce site—as well as George’s talk of finding someone new to take over his operation in the next few years. So, if you’ve ever romanced the idea of heading to the Western frontier to make your bones in the craft of bootmaking—or the idea of owning a really handsome pair of handmade boots—now’s your chance.

Meet George, take a look around his shop and start dreaming...»

Birthday Bowie

David Bowie, 66, announces new album, The Next Day

Seventy-eight years ago today, a king was born. His name was Elvis Presley and he ruled rock and roll.

The same day 12 years later, another member of rock royalty came into the world. He was christened the Thin White Duke, also known as David Bowie.

Over the years, he’s been one of music’s great chameleons, constantly tweaking his persona just so. He’s been a space oddity, a spider from Mars, a Queen collaborator, an Iggy Pop mentor, an early digital-music adopter, a supermodel husband, an actor whose diverse roles include Andy Warhol, Nikola Tesla and Pontius Pilate, an innovator, a sophisticate, a total fashion plate and—high above all—a serious artist who is always ready to take a risk.

And now, on the 66th anniversary of his birth, he drops a new single and announces a forthcoming full-length album of brand-new material, his first in a decade.

All we can say is, “And many more.”
