Spotted at the Brooks Brothers preview, this is what a tie dimple should look like. Deep, proud and ever so slightly asymmetrical.

If you’ve stopped by Lincoln Center in the past few days, you probably noticed the cloud of eager street style photographers, buzzing around the plaza and photographing each other like a #menswear Tumblr feed made manifest. (Count the cameras in the pic above and you’ll see what we mean.) It pops up every time there are enough fashion editors in one place, and never fails to amuse us. So we took it upon ourselves to document this phenomenon in case any other mini-Sartorialists want to join in and need some tips on dressing the part. We figure we got about half of them…

Mark your calendars: today was the day the Internet gave us a comprehensive photoset of Jack Nicholson at Laker games. And it was good.

Okay, not really—but between the mid-’70s ’stache, the aviators and the moto jacket, he had us fooled.

This sun-baked polaroid comes from Band of Outsiders, who pulled in pop artist Ed Ruscha for their latest lookbook. Over the course of nearly two dozen snaps, he models a pajama shirt, an Acrylic Painting for Dummies book and a surprisingly credible gangster suit. Check out the rest of the pics here.

Our latest winter shot comes via StreetFSN with two perfect February items and minus one pair of gloves. The man in question is Mordechai Rubinstein and the sweater can be found here, but the blackwatch jacket is still at large.

The latest installment in our “coolest people on earth” series, this shot finds Andy Warhol and David Hockney sharing a smoke with a few art critics circa 1963, and running a clinic on how to wear a trench coat. For anyone interested, the print’s headed to auction in a couple weeks.

This picture comes from Camo’s upcoming fall/winter lookbook, themed around the style of the casino. Note the housecoat blazer, the impeccable tie dimple and the dangerously short stack.

There’s been a lot of orange in the air lately, starting with this Boglioli sweater spotted by Jonathan Evans. As we looked more, burnt orange started popping up all over, as an unexpected alternative to the softer browns and beiges. You’ll be seeing a lot more of it over the next six months, so here’s a head start: a pictorial exhibit on orange at its best.

NASA leaked their full catalog of Gemini photos earlier today, and we thought we’d pass along this one of test pilot Thomas Stafford on Gemini IX, gazing out into the wild blue yonder. Legendary stuff.

In honor of the playoffs, we couldn’t resist passing along this 1969 Sports Illustrated snap, which finds Joe Namath relaxing poolside with reporters in the run-up to Super Bowl III. Note the shorts, the fan base and the shit-eating grin. Eat your heart out, Rodgers.

Our obsession of the day is vintage ski posters (which may have something to do with the frosty conditions outside). This one comes from the legendary Warren Miller in Jackson Hole circa 1965. We don’t have a name for the skier, but he certainly knew his way around a pair of sunglasses.

Winter is upon us, and for the next two months all your chances of surviving the outdoors turn on a single item: your winter coat. And since you’ll be brothers-in-arms until at least March, we thought we’d put together a few pictures showing off the best the winter coat has to offer—from classic duffels to mountain-ready waxed cotton coats. It’s going to be a good winter…

We’ve got some bad news. No matter how many pairs of work boots you get, you’ll never be as cool as this guy riding a motorcycle in his overalls circa 1919.

This SNS Herning sweater is the perfect example of anti-fashion—a timeless item that pops back up year after year as one of the menswear scene’s favorite items. So we were impressed that this lookbook managed to nail down the appeal so perfectly. That’s how you do it, right down to the wet-look hair. Take notes, gentlemen.

Stockholm’s Rose & Born just posted this bow tie/plaid pairing that just about sums up holiday style. You’ve got loud patterns, offbeat styles and the kind of eye-popping fearlessness that plays a lot better around the winter solstice. Our only complaint is that they could do a better job of hiding that top button—but let’s not ruin the season by nitpicking.

Before Stanley Kubrick got into film, he made his bones shooting pictures for LOOK Magazine—and now, a batch of the photos are hitting the market, courtesy of the Museum of the City of New York, shot between 1945 and 1950. His main subject was the nooks and crannies of New York, from boxers to carnival barkers to street kids, all shot with his famous eye for surreal compositions. We’ve thrown together a few of our favorites after the jump.
