Portland, ME just got the first real appraisal we’ve seen, courtesy of the ex-Gawker mapblog Gridskipper. Naturally, Rogues Gallery’s standalone shop comes out as a major point of interest, but we were surprised how much else there is in New England’s finest hipster enclave.
For starters, they’ve got a fledgling mead industry going—all that local honey doesn’t eat itself—and enough local microbrews to make the long winter bearable. Of course, it doesn’t have the preppy charm of Cape Cod or the tech runoff of its Oregon sister city, but a little flannel-clad isolation can be good for the soul. And if you need a good pizza place, now you’ll know where to look.
