Timepiece Tuesday: Filson Gets into the Watch Game

Filson has prided itself on making “unfailing goods” since the day they began making blankets for Klondike explorers in 1897.

But not until now have any of those goods included watches.

So they teamed up with the new torchbearers of American watchmaking, Shinola,to launch their very first watch collection—consisting of field watches, GMTs and chronographs strapped in their legendarily rugged bridle leathers and tin cloth.

They aren’t shipping until March, but we’ve got your preview here:

You start with the choice of three different looks: a three-hand field watch, a chronograph or a GMT. Each comes in a variety of finishes, from stainless steel to gunmetal to rose gold. And on a variety of straps, from bridle leather, to rubber, to tin cloth. (Adding up to 23 options in all.)

They’re all assembled in Detroit by the good folks at Shinola, using their Argonite quartz movements, sapphire crystal faces and cases depth-rated to 20ATM (660 feet), which should be more than adequate on your fishing trips—or water-aerobics classes.

And like everything Filson makes, they’re only going to get more handsome as they age and are guaranteed for life.

Meaning, your watch will probably outlast you.
