The Stat Sheet: The Armoury Ring Jacket A-1 Blouson
- Najib Benouar
As the torchbearers of Hong Kong’s tailoring renaissance, The Armoury has been turning out lust-worthy menswear since they opened up shop in 2010.
And the latest batch has just hit the web, in the form of four A-1 blousons by the legendary Japanese label Ring Jacket with wool sourced from celebrated English mill Abraham Moon. Our favorite of the bunch is the marled Fair Isle-y number you see above.
Here’s what else you need to know.
The Story: Ring Jacket is as heritage as it gets in Japan (which is saying something), and their A-1 blouson is an updated version of the flight jackets worn by pilots in the ’20s and ’30s. Instead of a leather bomber, this one’s done in wool jersey from Abraham Moon—they’ve picked up a few knitting tricks since 1837.
Who to Channel: A humble Scottish shepherd turned top gun fighter pilot; Gregory Peck in Twelve O’Clock High (flight goggles optional).
When to Wear It: Every day, now through winter’s end—unless a torrential downpour requires a seriously waterproof outer layer.
Degree of Difficulty: Low in most situations, but if you’re subbing this in for a sport coat, you’ll want to stick to the basics: solid dress shirt, navy tie, etc.
