The Stat Sheet: A.P.C. x Carhartt Gabrielle Jacket
- Najib Benouar
Just in at Très Bien Shop is the latest batch of goods from the collaboration between the French selvage-denim-heads at A.P.C. and Detroit’s workwear mainstays, Carhartt—as far as sturdy duck canvas goes, nobody does it better than them. So, naturally, our favorite was the update on the chore coat (translation: it’s cut trimmer than the ones you’ll find in a surplus shop), the A.P.C. x Carhartt Gabrielle Jacket. Here’s what you need to know about it.
The Story: A few seasons ago, Carhartt and A.P.C. came together to expand upon Carhartt’s European success by offering their Frenchified workwear staples to enthusiasts looking for the same workwear functionality, with a more tailored fit. So far, it has been a big hit.
Who to Channel: Cool Hand Luke, Bill Cunningham, a longshoreman jumping into a freshly raked pile of leaves.
When to Wear It: On a rainy day—over a sweater—or whenever a lightweight yet weatherproof layer is needed. Bonus points for using it to dress down or lend some edge to a shirt and tie.
Expiration Date: It’s probably okay to break this out any time of year it begins to rain—the waxed coating will serve you well—but the hue of duck canvas feels especially autumnal.
Degree of Difficutly: Not high. You’ll want to stay away from wearing too much additional workwear, lest you risk the “urban lumberjack” vibe. (Note: a full beard counts as wearing one additional piece of workwear.)
