WHO CARES ABOUT THE AMES STRAW POLL? Michele Bachmann won the Ames Straw Poll, during which 30,000 Iowans ate barbeque and voted on presidential candidates. According to history, this poll doesn’t really matter -- but after this weekend, Tim Pawlenty wants out and Rick Perry wants in. Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post breaks down the rest of the field here.

NOTEWORTHY OPINION David Swenson points out that the “financial security of millions of Americans hangs in the balance” of whether or not the mutual fund industry is reformed. Krugman explains how and why the miracle on which Rick Perry plans to run is bogus. Friedman believes the riots in London, the Middle East rebellions, and protests in Athens and Barcelona are each fueled by the middle class feeling that a positive future is not “accessible” to them. Andrew Sullivan addresses the lengths to which President Obama will go to avoid being pegged as “The Angry Black Man.”

MOTHER NATURE REMAINS PISSED A concert stage at the Indiana State Fair collapsed on Saturday night due to wind gusts of nearly 80 mph, killing five and injuring 50. Meanwhile, heavy rain pelted the Atlantic coast and paralyzed much of Long Island.

NO-NAME BEATS NO-NAME IN PGA CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFF It was kind of exciting, we guess. Keegan Bradley sunk an impossible 35ft putt on the 17th hole to force a playoff with Jason Dufner, who’s most famous for being Dan Marino’s caddie at the Weston Hills Country Club. Seeing that Tiger didn’t even make the playoffs, many are wondering if anyone’s going to keep watching.
