The Real Winners of Last Night’s NFL Draft

  • Kempt Staff

A few 20-year-olds became millionaires last night.

And while the sports pundits and analysts were fussing over where Johnny Football was going to land in the first round of the NFL draft, we were keeping an eye on the menswear. Considering the shaky track record of athlete style, we were pleasantly surprised to see these young men out there flourishing. No one knocked it out of the park, but there definitely were some early signs of style superstars in the making.

These were the real winners of last night’s NFL draft:

NFL: 2014 NFL DraftEric Ebron: A bold tie, a daring-yet-subtle silk flower lapel pin, a suit that... was fighting for dear life to contain those shoulders. Ebron had it all right, except for the fit—a common problem with athletes. This kid’s style has got a big upside; all he needs to do is find a trusted tailor in Detroit.

NFL: 2014 NFL DraftHa Ha Clinton-Dix: Another style risk that mostly paid off. When your name is Ha Ha, you’re not going to shy away from wearing a burgundy dinner jacket—the color has been trending for a while now, so that’s a plus. The only downside: you could end up looking like a fancy movie usher. (It doesn’t help when you’re still young enough to hold down a summer job.)

050914_NFL-Draft-Khalil-MackKhalil Mack: Not exactly what you picture when you hear “linebacker in a suit,” and that’s a good thing. We could’ve done with one less pattern (namely, a crisp white shirt instead of the stripes), but that blogger-blue suit was a scene stealer. Extra points for the well-ruffled pocket square.
