The Nude Ranch
We were flipping through some vintage San Francisco pics today when we came across one of the more interesting curios of the depression era: Sally Rand’s Nude Ranch.
Believe it or not, you’re looking at a staged performance. For the price of a ticket, theater-goers got a chance to see the ladies of the ranch go about their nude duties, including practicing lasso tricks, riding horses, frying eggs, shooting arrows and (for some reason) playing badminton. It’s more of a vérité approach to burlesque, but it was the hottest ticket in town for a good two years.
Coincidentally, if anyone has an off-off-broadway theater they’re not using…
