082014_haircutThat Final Summer Cut. “I’m a creature of habit. Last spring I switched up my hair situation, electing to keep it longer up top and buzz it with a 2 around the sides and the back. Ever since that fateful cut I’ve wanted to go even shorter on the sides, but I’d flinch at the last second and keep things the same. So last week I rationalized that there was only so much summer left to experiment with a shorter cut, and finally got it done. I’m more than happy with it, and will probably make it my new norm regardless of when Boston winter comes around to freeze my ears off.” —E.T.

082014_boast-infographicYour Tennis Cheat Sheet. “The folks at Boast put together this great infographic tinged with their always spot-on retro sports vibe just in time for the US Open. It’s worth a quick scan to brush up on your tennis jargon.” —N.B.

082014_Thom-Browne-Ice-BucketCooler Than Cool. “Thom Browne’s short-suit-clad ALS ice bucket challenge has to be the most dapper one yet. He even gave the buckets his signature stripe.” —N.B.

082014_corey-stoll-wigCorey Stoll’s Fright Wig. “Of all the supernatural oddities and eerie special effects on FX’s goofy horror series The Strain, it’s the wig of star Corey Stoll that I find the most compelling. It’s both preternatural in its widow’s peak perfection, yet macabre when you consider that, you know, he’s actually made to wear it. And you thought The Leftovers was the most depressing thing on television.” —C.L. “High School Lover.” “Labor Day is fast approaching. Summer is waning. Somewhere a kid just bought a Trapper Keeper iPad case. Anyway, if you’re feeling a little wistful, you should probably be listening to ’High School Lover.’ (As in, ‘You should’ve been my...’) It’s by Cayucas and it came out last year, but this month it’s become a must-listen for me. Call it the official song of the end-of-summer.” —L.P.
