The Kempt Five
Every Wednesday, we’re giving you a deeper look into what makes the minds behind Kempt tick. We call it: The Kempt Five.
Classic Vertical Stripes. “Good enough for the Dennis/Carl/Al/Brian/Mike Love in the Summer of ’64, good enough for you in the Summer of ’14. (And, from what we’ve seen, good enough for Steven Alan, for Gant, for...)” —P.L.U.
Spring Kickball Pickup Games. “This past weekend I was down at the shore visiting family for the holidays and my cousins (ages 9 to 16) prepared a dinner toast calling for the older generation to join them in an après game of kickball. They ended up amassing about 30 players aged 6 to 80ish wearing everything from Nike shocks to seersucker suits and wingtips. It was that nostalgic kind of perfect good time.” —C.G.
J.Crew Short-Sleeve Popovers. “In the grand tradition of women-working-in-menswear-dressing-in-menswear, I picked up a handful of these over the weekend. They’re the perfect transitional shirt—you can pair ’em with the gamut of denim or chinos and they have the right price point for a spring basic staple.” —C.G.
Silicon Valley. “After watching the first episode of Mike Judge’s new HBO series on startup/VC/#disrupt culture in the Bay Area, I was lukewarm on it at best. But after giving the next two episodes a chance and listening to a pretty fantastic NPR interview, it’s become the one thing my television diet has been lacking: a good 30-minute comedy with a few characters I’m happy to check in on once a week. Give it a shot.” —J.W.
A Vintage Oak Icebox. “I recently came into the possession of one of these just in time for outdoor cocktail season (the one pictured has been painted, but it’s the best I could find of a three-door box like the one I’ve got). I’m planning on putting it on casters so I can wheel it out on the deck to use as an outdoor bar, when it isn’t lending a Gatsby-esque mystique to the corner of our sunroom. Now to track down a reliable source for giant ice blocks...” —N.B.
