The Kempt Five
Every Wednesday, we’re giving you a deeper look into what makes the minds behind Kempt tick. We call it: The Kempt Five.
This blazer from Carson St. Clothiers. “Dropped in here this weekend, saw some... interesting fall options. (Something I can only describe as sweater-pants, which unfortunately I can’t find online.) But I also saw some still-tempting summer options, like this silk-linen blazer from the house line. It’s half off. And I’m guessing it won’t be there for long.” —P.L.U.
The Museum of the City of New York. “Home to the world’s smallest Duchamp. Houses a great set of exhibits, including ones on the city’s history of political activism and on the fantastic Green-Wood Cemetery. Charmingly located across from Central Park. Oh, and... no one in NYC ever goes there. Which is a goddamned shame. Next time you’re in town, treat yourself.” —P.L.U.
Everything About Miansai. “I ordered a bracelet from Miansai a few weeks ago, the gold hook on a silver chain, and it was sadly too big. A little miffed that there weren’t easy returns/exchanges instructions, I had to fill out a form and wait for someone to email with next steps... Surprisingly quickly, Angie looped with me and made it all very simple. And offered to custom-fit the bracelet if I sent a note with my measurements, and new one would be on its way. I also mentioned I saw the new oxidized chain at Capsule Show NYC—it’s a big player in their SS14 collection—and while it wasn’t offered on their site yet, I asked if they could put together a small oxidized chain with the gold hook. Angie emailed again to follow up, letting me know they’d gotten my note and made the custom piece, and it was already en route back to me. Fits lovely, it’s one of a kind, and this was the best customer service experience I’ve had in a minute.” —C.G.
New Balance x Herschel Supply Co. 710 Sneaker. “I’m sure you’ve noticed, but New Balance is kind of having a revival these days. A brand that seemed to produce only boring cross-trainers for middle school gym class students, they now reign as the preferred sneaker for menswear aficionados everywhere who prefer not to use the word kicks. This latest collaboration with Herschel Supply Co. is just another handsome notch in that newfound dapper belt of theirs. I bought the maroon iteration last week, and if it wasn’t for UPS, they’d be on my feet today instead of sitting in some goddamned Sparks, NV, warehouse.” —S.P.
Grilled Lemonade (plus Bourbon). “I’d been searching for the perfect porch cocktail the other day, when I happened upon a recipe for this little ditty. There’s just something so obvious about it, I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of such a thing before. Dead-of-summer imbibing will never be the same again. And I can’t say I hate that.” —S.P.
