Man of the Hour: Clint Eastwood

Clint Eastwood

Over the weekend, the Pebble Beach golf course held its annual pro-am tournament featuring a who’s who of bold-faced names in sports and entertainment: John Daly, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady, Jeb Bush, Kenny G... the list goes on.

But the brightest star of the weekend was undoubtedly Clint Eastwood—because he saved a man’s life.

Allow us to set the scene of how Dirty Harry sprang into action and why we’re bestowing MOTH honors upon the gritty octogenarian...

It was the tournament’s tee-off party and suddenly PGA event director Steve Johns found himself choking on some fine cheese (because Pebble Beach), and that’s when Clint went into everyday hero mode:

“I looked in his eyes and saw that look of panic people have when they see their life passing before their eyes. It looked bad,” Eastwood would later tell the wonderfully named local paper, The Carmel Pine Cone.

And it was in that instant that the 83-year-old actor/director/mayor scrambled to Johns and lifted the 200-pound man in three heaves—possibly while asking him how lucky he was feeling—and successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver to save his life. In other words, it was another reminder that Eastwood doesn’t just play the ultimate American antihero on screen—he is one.

We hear his golf game isn’t too shabby either.
