Kempt Man of the Hour: Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has come up with some pretty iffy outfits in the past, and yet he's always managed to do so with a certain panache that saved the day, sartorially. Nonetheless, we far prefer it when he takes a more classic approach, as he did with brilliant results as the premiere of his new movie *Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street* this week.

There was just the right touch of Todd in his ensemble: a vintage, custom-made, slim-cut, black wool 1940s wide-lapel double-breasted suit with subtle cranberry and grey stripes and “Hollywood” waist trousers, from top-drawer online vintage boutique Kakkoii Mono's well-curated men's collection. He topped it off with a bespoke black dress shirt with a high stance collar, and a rich solid red silk tie and pocket square from Brioni, chosen to play off the red stripes in the suit. And of course he stuck to the scruffy leather boots he wears without fail just to let us know he's still a rakish bohemian at heart.

Depp is a devoté of the Midwest-based Kakkoii Mono, which is Japanese for “cool things”; owner Ellen Flanz tells us they're planning to expand the men's collection and shift the focus to gentleman's clothes, which is good news for all of us.
