Fall Report: Colors, Materials, Patterns

  • Kempt Staff

BG-4KPB_mzFall is so close, we can taste it (very spiced-cider-y this year). So, in anticipation of the monumental shift in your wardrobe, leisure activities and general state-of-mind, we’re dedicating this week to preparing you for all of your upcoming autumnal endeavors...

We continue our coverage with a look ahead to the colors, materials and patterns you can expect to see on the racks (and in your closet).

The Color: Burgundy. Wine. Dark red. Whatever you’d like to call it, oversaturated dark hues of red are popping up everywhere this fall. And it feels right, like the vibrant turning leaves of autumn.

The Materials: Leather, boiled wool and tweed. As you’d expect, these are all heavy, weather-resistant materials. Boiled wool has been seeing a revival lately, and now it’s going beyond the coat. Leather has been showing up everywhere, from varsity jacket sleeves and moto jackets to suede shearling parkas. Tweed has been getting the checkered treatment—more on that later...

The Pattern: Checks. Gun checks, glen checks, shepherd’s checks. From the fine wool suiting crisscrossed in glen check to the gun check overcoat. If you’re looking to inject some pattern into your fall routine, make sure it ends in “check.”
