A Gentleman’s Guide to Failure
Failure gets a bad rap.
Success gets all the headlines, but there are usually a few quiet failures beforehand. The trick is accepting them with grace and learning something along the way. And since practice makes perfect, some enterprising self-improvement gurus have decided to make a game of it.
It’s called Rejection Therapy…and it’s not for the faint of heart.
There’s only one rule to rejection therapy: You must be rejected by another person at least once, every single day.
Only actual rejection will do. It’s not about trying something that makes you nervous and coming through unscathed. If you miss out on rejection the first time, try again. (They’ll even sell you a pack of cards with suggestions like “ask for a discount” to help you out.) Just don’t stop until you’ve failed. You’re encouraged to start out with a 30-day challenge, but there’s nothing telling you to stop there. You could spend your whole life this way, if you wanted.
Sure, it sounds like the setup for a bad movie—please, let’s make sure that doesn’t happen—but by the end, you’ll have little to no fear of rejection, which should free you up for any number of gallant pursuits.
Just remember, it’s strong medicine. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
